group of non-Rotarian men and women who share Rotarian’s
commitment to service. A sponsoring Rotary club organizes
and utilizes the skills
of these people to improve the quality of life in their communities.
This leads to the promotion of grassroots projects that maximize
local resources and develop local leadership abilities.
Rotary Volunteers is a program that increases awareness
of Rotarians and non-Rotarians of volunteer opportunities.
The program assists clubs and districts to develop community
service projects that address the needs of their communities
and fosters fellowship and goodwill.
World Community Service pairs Rotary clubs from around
the world. The WCS program links Rotary clubs needing extra
help for service projects in their community with clubs
in other countries that are willing to provide funds, materials,
and technical and professional assistance.
Rotary Youth Exchange fosters international understanding
by giving thousands of young people the opportunity to
meet people from other lands and cultures. Students spend
up to a year in the home of a Rotary family in a foreign
country.
Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young
people ages 14-18. Through service activities, students
learn leadership skills and personal integrity while demonstrating
helpfulness and civic responsibility. They also meet new
friends with shared values.
Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young
men and women ages 18-30. The club helps members develop
leadership and professional skills while serving their
community and the world.
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is
Rotary’s
training program for young leaders, emphasizing leadership,
citizenship and personal growth. It’s a program of
mentoring, inspiring and helping youth meets their goals.
The Open World program is a special program available
to Rotary Clubs in the United States. This program, operated
by the Open World leadership Center at the U.S. Library
of Congress is designed to promote friendship and understanding
between Russia and the United States. Each participating
Rotary club hosts five Russian participants and develops
a program of study that allows the participants to learn
more about specific aspects of American life during intensive,
short-term visits.
Rotary Friendship Exchange is just that:
Rotarians and their families exchanging visits in each
other’s
homes in other countries. There are three types of Friendship
Exchanges:
Visitor Program. Individual Rotarians spend a few days
in the home of a Rotarian in another country. Family members
may be included.
Team Program. Rotarian couples visit several communities
in a host district for up to one month.
Uni-vocational. Host and guest Rotarians of the same occupation
visit observe and discuss how their job is done in other
countries.
